Charlie's 60th Birthday Field Dinner

For Charles’ dads 60th birthday two Summer’s ago, my sister in law had the idea of doing a dinner out in the cow pasture with some family and friends. It was the perfect night and we even managed to surprise him! Jennifer (My sister-in-law) and Paula (Our family friend who also works at the Vet Clinic) planned out the menu - All the recipes were pulled from The Pioneer Woman’s Cookbooks, which is always a big hit in our family. We set up a little bar with wine and Moscow mules with fresh mint from Jennifer’s yard.

There is a big field at the top of the hill that always has the best sunsets. Charles would always make fun of me while we were dating because every night I would say “It is such a beautiful night!” because at the top of the hill, when the sun sets it’s magical every night watching the cows graze (It is even where Charles proposed!). We set up a few tables with drop cloths as table cloths. I have a set of 20 white plates from Goodwill (A trick my mom taught me, I am never worried if they get broken or cracked and great to have on hand for entertaining) that I paired with mason jar glasses and linen stripe napkins.

Hatcher (My nephew) brought his camera and took a few pictures too!

I love this picture of Charlie because it sums him up perfectly. Always a smile on his face and hands on hips.. he keeps things always positive in our family and he is so easy to celebrate! Who would have guessed two years later he would be traveling the state as the Commissioner of Agriculture? We are so proud of him.

Happy October!
