amazon farm favorites.
Today I am sharing some of my favorite Amazon finds to help survive life on (or off) the farm. Let’s jump right in!
Muck Boots
I remember it like it was yesterday- I showed up one day very early in our dating life to help out Charles on the farm in the CUTEST floral rain boots. I got out of the car only to be met by Charles laughing at me and saying “those are not going to work.” The next day I ordered myself some Muck Boots and never looked back. You cannot have nice shoes living on a dairy farm. Charles constantly reminds me of this- He says, “Let me guess- those are your good shoes?” I own approximately 15 pairs of completely ruined Nike tennis shoes. The thing is, you will be leaving the house and going anywhere and then all of a sudden you are in the middle of field “checking on something” or have to get our to open a gate in the pouring rain on the way to a nice dinner and bam. Your shoes are ruined. I am still not as prepared in the shoe department as Charles would like but I am working on it.
When our film crew showed up the first day to film, our executive producer had on boat shoes. One of the first scenes we filmed was Charles and I cleaning the holding pen and pushing the manure in to the lagoon. Needless to say our he learned the hard way to always have proper shoes on the farm.
A good on the go cup
My husband is addicted to Yeti products. You cannot find him on this farm without this huge Yeti jug full of water. Therefore for every holiday, birthday, anniversary, etc. for the first few years or so, I received some sort of Yeti cup. But the truth is when you are going all day long it is important to take the proper drinks with you when you go because you never know when you will be back again. Coffee, water….wine. These are the things you can usually find in my cup to get me through. I love this size, but of course we own every size.
Porch Leaf Blower
My mom got me this favorite farm find- A cordless blower to clean off your porch. Our porch is constantly covered in mud, clothing, boots, bugs, leaves, you name it. This has been a lifesaver! And my nephew loves to use it too and it doubles as fun/helping out!
Short Brimmed Hat
Have you ever tried to drive around in a Gator or 4x4 with a wide brimmed hat? You have got to tie that thing down or you will be driving one handed! I love this hat because it has a lanyard and is short brimmed. You can actually still get work done and see without your hat getting in the way. It is pretty durable as well, I throw it in the back of the Gator all the time.
Table Cloth for Plastic Folding Tables
These are more for farm entertaining. I love to entertain. I throw a party for any and everything. I use these for field dinners and porch parties all the time. These drop cloths will cover a 6 Ft folding table. The 9x12 will cover the table and drape nicely on the floor. I have eight of these that I have used for weddings, showers, parties, etc. These are easy to clean and look like linen. I do pre-wash them to help with the stiffness.
Wool Dryer Balls
Never buy dryer sheets again! I do a lot of laundry for there just being two of us in the house. Pray for me. I have used these for years and give them as presents often! Dryer balls help reduce dry time by 20-40%, naturally soften and reduce wrinkles. They are chemical and fragrance free. They help to efficiently dry clothes and save energy. What’s not to love? You can use 4-5 to help dry a comforter or sheets faster and they are great for re-fluffing a down coat.
Towels for Pretty Chairs
When you live on a working farm you have to be prepared at all times for someone to come in and sit down in dirty pants, overalls, etc. I use these towels on my indoor and outdoor chairs. I am never afraid of anything getting dirty with these- I just throw them in the wash and re-cover!
Waterproof Leather Boots
Back to the shoe talk, it is hard to find farm appropriate cute boots. I love these waterproof leather boots by Kodiak. They are super comfy and I am not worried if they get dirty. When we were filming we would do interviews in the middle of a field or behind the barn and the film crew always seemed to find the muddiest part for us to stand. Above is a shot of my boots during doing interviews one day. Cute but still farm functional!
A Good Slow Cooker
Charles had this before we even started dating. I am lucky he has a sister who introduced him to Williams-Sonoma! I love the size of this slow cooker and it simplicity. We often don’t eat dinner till 8pm or 9pm - after all the work is done, so its great to have something in the slow cooker.
Lavender Towelettes
A lot of people don’t know we filmed our show last July/August/September in the hottest part of the summer! We would film early in the morning to not film in the hottest part of the day. I would pack a go-bad with water, snacks, a change of clothes and head out the door for the day. I would always have a few of these on hand and Jennifer and I would use them to freshen up. Or if you need a ten minute calm down - just snort these! I gave them as Christmas gifts this year.
Good Music
We love music around here- I love country and Charles loves rock-n-roll. There is always music playing at our house. We always have our speaker with us. This speaker is easy to tote around and has been dropped several times. You cannot beat Bose sound.
Farm Anatomy Book
This is a great simple farm resource. I reference this often for great farm illustrations and teach people about different breeds. This is a great resource if you are starting your own homestead or small farm.
